Ping Lin "tea town"

The other day we visited a tea town call Ping Lin and it was a cool experience. We found this little tea shop and this guy made us a few different types of tea to taste, one was their specialty, one was a little sweeter and one was really sweet. We found out that they price thier tea according to how sweet it is. They were really nice and we also found out that once you plant the tree or what ever the tea leaves grow on it takes three years before you can harvest the first time. But there are 3 or 4 havesting seasons a year. It was very educational and "a real taste" of the culture in taiwan. One of the sweeter more expensive teas was called asian beauty and had a red sort of color to it.

The Twelve days of Christmas

The Twelve Days of Christmas (12 Days of Christmas) : Lyrics
On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me A partridge in a pear tree.
On the second day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Six geese a-laying, Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Seven swans a-swimming, Six geese a-laying, Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Eight maids a-milking, Seven swans a-swimming, Six geese a-laying, Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Nine ladies dancing, Eight maids a-milking, Seven swans a-swimming, Six geese a-laying, Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Ten lords a-leaping, Nine ladies dancing, Eight maids a-milking, Seven swans a-swimming, Six geese a-laying, Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the eleventh day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Eleven pipers piping, Ten lords a-leaping, Nine ladies dancing, Eight maids a-milking, Seven swans a-swimming, Six geese a-laying, Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.
On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Twelve drummers drumming, Eleven pipers piping, Ten lords a-leaping, Nine ladies dancing, Eight maids a-milking, Seven swans a-swimming, Six geese a-laying, Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree!

Heres a little history behind the christmas carol that most of us have heard so many times. Someone I know shared this info with me and I would like to share it with you as well.

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics to remember basics of their faith. (It has two levels of meaning : the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church.)

1. True love refers to god. The partridge was Jesus Christ and the pear tree was the cross.
2. Two turtledoves were the Old and New Testaments
3. Three French hens stood for faith, hope, and love.
4. The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
5. The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first fivebooks of the Old Testament.("Pentateuch", which gives the history of man's fall from grace.)
6. The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
7. Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit: Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
8. The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
9. Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit:
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
10. The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.
11. The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
12. The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in The Apostles' Creed.

For those who don't know, the Beatitudes are the blessings Jesus spoke of during the Sermon on the Mount. The Latin word for blessed is beatus, from which we get the word beatitude. The beatitudes are found at Matthew 5: 3-12:

1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
2. Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
3. Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth.
4. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied.
5. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
6. Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
8. Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

The Colors of Sand

I wrote this for school last year as part of A project, let me know what you think.

The Colors of Sand

Sand is there and makes some people stop and reflect on things or brings old memories long forgotten back to the front of your head. It’s a pretty gold or white color and sometimes it’s pink, yellow or an ugly brown like my changing moods. You can be creative with it and make things out of it just like drawing a picture or making up a story. Sand is soft but hard to walk in. In the old days martial artists used to train in sand to strengthen their feet. I am constantly changing, like sand in different places is different colors. Every one has a favorite beach and sand color. Some people like white because it’s pretty and looks like snow. Other like me prefer the golden brown color where it’s pretty and doesn’t remind you of the winter. The golden sand is comforting to me like sunrays on a summer day. White sand feels kind of like marshmallows and is warm under your feet. The sand is worry free and lies there lazily under your feet. As you walk your feet make imprints in the sand much like many memories in my head. Once they’re there they take a while to disappear and are slowly covered up by others. Sand catches you when you fall just like I catch myself when I trip. Some days my mind is quiet and peaceful like the sand on a beach and others it’s loud and obnoxious. The colors of sand are all unique in their own way just like I am and my personality is an exact match of no one else’s, just like every fingerprint. We all make our mark in the world at some point in some way just like the sand forms to the shape of your foot when you are walking on the beach.

Post Blast

Blast was sooooo much fun, I almost, well actually I probably did fall asleep on the bus on the way to the camp. there were over 600 of us there this year, it was. we had lots of fun as a group, the Dupage Girls had the farthest cabin on the Girls side, but it was worth it.

we grew closer as a community durring the trip, and it was very cold but oh well thats wisconsin in the winter.....

Also I got some pretty good pictures from the retreat this year, it really was a great experience and I would not trade it for anything.

:) Hope you had a good weekend too.

poem

here's a poem i wrote for school, let me know what you think. :)

Sky Diving

Jumping from a plane-
The unforgettable stench of fumes surrounds me.
Freefalling peacefully-
through the off white fluffy clouds.

Trees changing colors far below,
to a deep red and some to goldenrod yellow.
My hair blowing in the cold, harsh wind.
I can barely tell what is below!

Maybe a dark and deadly forest,
or maybe-
a deep blue salty sea.

Hurriedly I open my ugly brown parachute.
The feeling as if I am,
suddenly floating through the thick,
chilly air that surrounds me-
like a big blanket.
